Abstract

The During theinspection process of the UGL Wagon 50 Feet train, defects were found in the welded joints of the structural parts made of S355J2 steel material. Therefore, welding repairs were carried out to rectify these welding results. This issue commonly occurs, leading to repeated welding repairs that alter the mechanical properties of the material. This study involved re-welding or repairing the welds using the GMAW method on S355J2 steel material with the aim of analyzing and comparing tensile strength, hardness, and the structure of non-repaired and repaired weld joints. The welding repairs were conducted in variations of non-repaired, 1-time repair, 2-time repair, and 3-time repair scenarios. The research resulted in data from tensile tests, micro Vickers hardness tests, and micro examinations. The findings of this study indicate a decrease in tensile strength, while hardness values increased and the microstructure of the material remained ferrite and perlite.
