Abstract

The lontar filter fiber is one of the parts of the lontar tree that is underutilized, so far it has only been used as a substitute fuel for kerosene or waste. On the other hand, this lontar filter fiber is very good when used as a reinforcement in composite materials. The advantages of using this natural fiber are that it has good mechanical properties, is not easily corroded and the raw materials are easily obtained. The method used in this study is the experimental method, where researchers made a composite material of lontar filter fiber with variations in the volume fraction of lontar filter fiber of 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 30%, 35%, 40%, 45% and 50% with hand lay up printing. Then the composite materials will be tested on specimens in the material laboratory to determine their physical properties (water absorption) and mechanical strength. The results showed that the highest water absorption rate was in the composite material with a volume fraction percentage of 50% lontar filter fiber, namely 0.005113%. The highest impact strength of the composite with a volume fraction of 50% is 0.019697 J/mm2
