Abstract

Oil palm plants are one of the plantation commodities that make a major contribution to the country's foreign exchange earnings and economic growth. However, the process of harvesting and pruning oil palm plants mostly still uses manual equipment so it takes a long time. The development of oil palm harvesting and pruning machines has begun using 2-stroke engines as the driving force, but there are still shortcomings due to high exhaust emissions, noise, and its contribution to environmental pollution. Modifying the machine with a DC motor is favored as an innovation to overcome these problems, especially in the stability of usage costs and environmental pollution. Efforts to increase the stability of machine usage costs and reduce environmental pollution are carried out through modifications to mechanical components and their driving sources. This research will be able to produce products and analysis data related to the performance of machine modifications with DC motors. This research uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental research type. The stages in this research begin with component analysis, product modification, machine performance trial process, analysis of trial results, and end with the presentation of machine trial results. This machine has a power of 180 watts and a speed of 6000 rpm.
