Perancangan Mesin Automatic Can Crusher Menggunakan Metodologi VDI 2222
Abstract
The ineffective management of metal waste, especially aluminum cans, poses significant environmental challenges, particularly in urban areas like Bandung, Indonesia. Following the fire at Sari Mukti’s final waste processing site, the city faced escalating waste problems. Additionally, in the Automation Construction Design course at Polman Bandung, students lack access to practical machines that meet industrial standards, affecting learning outcomes. This research focuses on designing an automatic can crusher machine using the VDI 2222 method to address these challenges. The machine is designed to compact used aluminum cans to 10% of their original volume, reducing storage space and recycling costs. The prototype measures 300 mm × 578 mm × 630 mm and can crush approximately 775 cans per hour with a power requirement of 36 W. The design was developed through analysis, concept generation, and optimization using SolidWorks and MathCAD. This study contributes to both environmental sustainability and educational innovation by providing a practical learning tool for engineering students.
