Komunikasi Ritual Simbolik Makan Nasi Ketan dalam Tradisi Pernikahan Suku Lembak Kota Bengkulu
Abstract
Abstract
This study discusses symbolic ritual communication in the Makan Nasi Ketan tradition in the wedding customs of the Lembak ethnic group in Bengkulu City. This tradition is carried out after the engagement process and becomes one of the important stages in the sequence of traditional wedding ceremonies. The purpose of this study is to understand the symbolic meaning of sticky rice (nasi ketan) and the process of cultural communication that occurs within this tradition. The study employs an ethnographic approach with qualitative methods to describe in depth the cultural practices, social interactions, and meanings understood by the community members who perform the tradition. The research data were collected through observation, interviews with traditional leaders and family members involved in the ceremony, as well as documentation. The results show that nasi ketan is interpreted as a symbol of attachment, representing the hope that the marital relationship will be strong and inseparable. In addition, the Makan Nasi Ketan tradition also serves as a ritual communication space for both families to deliberate, establish the wedding committee, divide roles and responsibilities, and discuss various customary requirements, including the dowry, in an open manner. Therefore, this tradition not only carries symbolic meaning but also functions as a medium of cultural communication that strengthens social relationships and preserves the continuity of traditional values within the Lembak community in Bengkulu City.
