AUTHORSHIP AND CONTRIBUTORSHIP

JUMATISI: Jurnal Mahasiswa Teknik Sipil

JUMATISI: Jurnal Mahasiswa Teknik Sipil is committed to maintaining transparency, fairness, and accountability in authorship and scholarly contributions. Authorship must reflect substantial intellectual contributions to the research and responsibility for the integrity of the published work. This policy applies to all manuscripts submitted to JUMATISI, including original research articles and review articles within the field of civil engineering.

1. Eligibility for Authorship

An individual is eligible for authorship when they meet all of the following criteria:

  1. Substantial contribution: Make a significant contribution to the conception or design of the study, data collection, research execution, structural or engineering analysis, interpretation of results, or development of research methods.

  2. Writing and intellectual revision: Draft the manuscript or critically revise it for important intellectual content.

  3. Final approval: Review and approve the final version of the manuscript submitted to JUMATISI, including substantive revisions made during the editorial process.

  4. Accountability: Accept responsibility for their own contributions and cooperate in addressing questions concerning the accuracy, validity, or integrity of the research.

These criteria apply to all authors, including students, lecturers, academic supervisors, researchers, and other collaborators. An individual's academic position, supervisory role, institutional affiliation, or seniority does not automatically qualify them for authorship.

All substantial contributors should be given a reasonable opportunity to participate in manuscript preparation, critical review, and final approval so that they can satisfy the authorship criteria.

2. Author Contributions Statement

Every submitted manuscript must include an Author Contributions statement that accurately describes the contributions of each author. All listed authors must review and agree to the statement before submission.

Authors may use the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT) or a clear narrative description appropriate to the research. Relevant contributions in civil engineering may include:

  • Conceptualization and development of research objectives.

  • Methodology and research design.

  • Investigation, field surveys, and laboratory testing.

  • Data collection, validation, and management.

  • Engineering calculations, numerical modeling, and simulation.

  • Formal analysis and interpretation of results.

  • Preparation of drawings, figures, tables, and technical illustrations.

  • Writing the original manuscript.

  • Reviewing and editing the manuscript.

  • Supervision and project administration, where applicable.

  • Funding acquisition, where applicable.

More than one author may contribute to the same activity, and an individual may perform several roles. Listing a contribution does not, by itself, establish eligibility for authorship.

Illustrative format:

Author A: Conceptualization, methodology, investigation, data collection, formal analysis, and original manuscript preparation.

Author B: Methodology, validation, interpretation of results, and critical review and editing.

Author C: Data analysis, visualization, and manuscript revision.

All authors reviewed and approved the final manuscript and agreed to be accountable for their respective contributions.

The statement above is illustrative only. Authors must adapt it to reflect the actual work performed. Unsupported or inaccurate contribution declarations are not permitted.

For single-author manuscripts, the sole author must describe their own contributions accurately.

3. Author Approval and Order

Before submission to JUMATISI, all authors must agree to:

  1. Submission of the manuscript to JUMATISI.

  2. The complete list of authors and the order of their names.

  3. The Author Contributions statement.

  4. The designation of the corresponding author.

  5. The final manuscript and all substantive revisions.

Author order should be determined collectively by the authors based on their actual contributions and relevant disciplinary conventions. The journal does not determine an author's contribution solely from their position in the author list.

Where contributions are genuinely equal, an equal-contribution statement may be included if all relevant authors agree and the statement accurately reflects their work.

Each author should understand the overall research, be able to identify their own contribution, and know which co-authors are responsible for other major components of the study.

4. Corresponding Author Responsibilities

The corresponding author acts as the principal contact between the author group and the JUMATISI editorial office. This designation does not grant exclusive ownership of the research or the authority to make authorship decisions without the agreement of the other authors.

The corresponding author is responsible for:

  1. Ensuring that all listed authors meet the authorship criteria and have approved the submission.

  2. Providing accurate author names, affiliations, email addresses, and other required metadata.

  3. Submitting a complete and accurate Author Contributions statement.

  4. Confirming that all authors have agreed to the author list, author order, and corresponding-author designation.

  5. Coordinating editorial correspondence, reviewer comments, and manuscript revisions with all co-authors.

  6. Ensuring that substantive revisions receive the approval of all authors.

  7. Facilitating responses to editorial questions concerning research integrity, data accuracy, and authorship before and after publication.

The corresponding author must maintain a valid contact email address throughout the editorial and publication process.

5. Non-Author Contributors and Acknowledgments

Individuals who contribute to the research but do not meet all authorship criteria should be acknowledged appropriately, with their permission.

Contributions that alone do not establish eligibility for authorship include:

  • General academic supervision or administrative leadership.

  • Providing institutional facilities, equipment, or access to research locations.

  • Routine laboratory assistance or technical services.

  • Funding acquisition without other qualifying scholarly contributions.

  • Translation, language editing, proofreading, or formatting.

  • General advice or administrative support without substantial intellectual involvement.

Individuals performing these activities may qualify for authorship if they also meet all authorship criteria.

Professional writing, editing, laboratory, or technical assistance that materially supports the research should be acknowledged where appropriate. Relevant funding or sponsorship for such assistance must also be disclosed.

Acknowledgments do not replace the requirement to disclose funding sources, competing interests, or other information required by JUMATISI.

6. Unacceptable Authorship Practices

JUMATISI does not permit the following practices:

Gift or honorary authorship: Including an individual as an author because of their academic rank, supervisory position, seniority, personal relationship, or institutional authority without qualifying contributions.

Guest authorship: Adding a prominent or well-known individual to increase the perceived credibility of a manuscript when they do not meet the authorship criteria.

Ghost authorship: Excluding an eligible contributor or concealing substantial assistance that should be disclosed.

Authorship trading or coercion: Buying, selling, exchanging, or demanding authorship positions without qualifying scholarly contributions.

Misrepresentation of contributions: Claiming research activities, analyses, writing, or other contributions that an author did not perform.

Unapproved authorship changes: Adding, removing, or rearranging authors without the required agreement of the affected authors and editorial assessment.

All authors are responsible for ensuring that authorship information and contribution declarations are accurate and transparent.

Artificial intelligence (AI) systems and other non-human tools cannot meet the requirements for author approval and accountability and must not be listed as authors. The use of AI tools in manuscript preparation or research must follow the journal's applicable AI Usage Policy and disclosure requirements.

7. Changes to Authorship

Requests to add or remove an author, change the author order, or change the corresponding author after submission must be sent to the JUMATISI editorial office.

The request must include:

  1. The manuscript title and submission identification number, where available.

  2. A clear explanation and justification for the proposed change.

  3. An updated Author Contributions statement, where applicable.

  4. Written agreement from all affected authors, including any author being added or removed.

All requests are subject to editorial assessment. Changes will not be approved automatically solely because they have been requested by the corresponding author or the author group.

The editorial process, peer review, or production may be paused while the request is assessed. Requests submitted after acceptance will receive particular scrutiny because authorship should ordinarily have been finalized before submission.

After publication, approved authorship changes will be handled in accordance with the journal's Corrections Policy and applicable publication ethics standards.

If agreement cannot reasonably be obtained because of circumstances such as death or incapacity, the authors should explain the situation and provide supporting information for editorial assessment.

8. Authorship Disagreements

Authors are expected to resolve disagreements concerning contributions, authorship eligibility, and author order before submitting a manuscript to JUMATISI.

If a dispute arises, the editorial office may request explanations and supporting documentation relevant to the authorship decision. The journal does not independently adjudicate competing claims about work performed within a research team.

Where a dispute remains unresolved, the journal may refer the matter to the relevant institution or another competent body. Editorial processing may be suspended until sufficient clarification is obtained.

Any formal investigation or action affecting a published article will be handled in accordance with the journal's applicable Research Integrity and Corrections Policies.

9. Related Policies and Contact

This policy should be read together with the JUMATISI Author Guidelines, Submission Requirements, Publication Ethics, Conflict of Interest, Funding Disclosure, AI Usage Policy, and Corrections Policy, where applicable.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts comply with all applicable journal requirements before submission.
