Editorial Roles

PROFETIK separates academic leadership, manuscript handling, administrative work, and scholarly advice. This page explains what each role does and where its authority ends.

1. Editor-in-Chief

  • Leads the editorial direction and policy of the journal.
  • Assigns manuscripts to editors according to expertise and absence of conflict.
  • Issues final decisions after reviewing reviewer reports, author responses, and editor recommendations.
  • Coordinates responses to integrity concerns about submitted or published work.

Limit of authority: may not handle or decide any manuscript in which he or she has a conflict of interest.

2. Editors (Section Editors)

  • Carry out initial screening for scope, completeness, similarity, and basic academic quality.
  • Invite qualified reviewers and monitor review deadlines.
  • Evaluate reviewer reports and prepare a reasoned recommendation for the Editor-in-Chief.
  • Guide authors—many of whom are students—through revisions in a clear and educational manner.

Limit of authority: editors recommend decisions unless decision authority has been explicitly delegated to them for a specific manuscript.

3. Editorial Office and Production Staff

  • Check submission files, metadata, and template compliance.
  • Handle correspondence, APC invoicing, copyediting, layout, proofreading, DOI deposit, and publication on OJS.

Limit of authority: administrative or payment matters never confer the authority to accept a manuscript or to change a reviewer’s assessment.

4. Reviewers

  • Assess manuscripts in their area of expertise and recommend an outcome.

Limit of authority: reviewers advise; they do not accept or reject manuscripts.

5. Advisory Members

  • Advise on the journal’s scholarly development, scope, and quality improvement (see Advisory Members).

6. Recording Assignments

For each manuscript, the OJS record identifies the handling editor and the editor who issued the final decision. When one person holds several roles, authority comes from the specific assignment, not from the number of titles held.
